SINGAPORE: Loss of Local McDonald’s Incites Mourning… and Exercise

How far would you walk for your favorite french fry?

Five hundred loyal McDonald’s customers in Singapore can now answer that question with certainty.  The residents received national media attention when they showed up at 8am on Sunday to make the 1.5 km (.93 miles) trek from a former McDonald’s to its new location on the day of its closing. Customers had become attached to the former location, having been standing for thirty years at the East Coast Parkway outlet, and many were sad to see it leave. One local, David Gee, described his especially fond experience with the East Coast Parkway McDonald’s, having stopped there every morning for ten years to grab a cup of coffee on his way to work and becoming well acquainted with its employees.

Not many Americans would walk so far for their french fries.
