AUSTRALIA: Suddenly There’s Wiggle Room

Reports by the New Zealand Herald and Sydney Morning Herald have confirmed that after 21 years, the world famous children’s singing group, the Wiggles, with be losing the majority of its members following the conclusion of its Celebration Tour in December.

The move announced by the group earlier this month stated that Jeff Fatt (Purple Wiggle), Murray Cook (Red Wiggle) and Greg Page (Yellow Wiggle) will be leaving.  However, these Wiggles will remain on the sidelines, but available for action, providing creative assistance and moral support to the group going forward. According to sources, only the blue Wiggle, Anthony Field, will remain on stage. “We’ve been entertaining children around the world for 21 years and it’s important that we plan for the future so that The Wiggles can keep wiggling in the years to come,” the Red Wiggle, Murray Cook said in the statement.

In an interesting development, though, the incoming Wiggles will showcase their first-ever woman Wiggle, Emma Watkins, in addition to Lachlan Gillespie and Simon Pryce.  The trio will assume the roles of the the new Yellow, Purple and Red Wiggles, respectively.  The range of people the Wiggles have touched is extraordinary, with even Prime Minister Julia Gillard also chiming in, saying, “I congratulate Jeff, Murray and Greg on their amazing careers, and for all the joy they have brought to Australian families.”
