ASIA MEDIA WRITES – John McCain: “Nothing in life is more liberating than to fight for a cause larger than yourself, something that encompasses you but is not defined by your existence alone.”
All of us – but especially college students contemplating career options – might wish to consider the import of this now-famous thought from the late Senator John McCain, whose confinement for five years as a prisoner of war in the wryly named ‘Hanoi Hilton’ in war-torn North Vietnam became the stuff of legend. For all his faults – and we all have them – this quotation alone should solidify his place in American political history; it is not difficult to imagine it as a chapter quote in ‘Profiles in Courage’ by John F. Kennedy.
