THAILAND: You Can’t Teach English if the Teachers Fear it!

A conference recently held in Thailand for more than 600 Thai educators and teachers promoted the encouragement and motivation to overcome educators’ fear of using English in the classroom.

A model known as the English for Integrated Studies (EIS) demonstrates that teaching in English makes the language more accessible to all income levels, resulting in better English communication skills for the Thai world. EIS attempts to have teachers trained in how to teach English, utilizing media to help students understand lessons and questions in English.

More than 300 schools have adopted EIS and the Education Ministry actually plans to amend a draft law to apportion more funds to the English communication development project.  Thai educators are confident in the success of this approach for both the teaching as well as speaking of English.
