Tom Plate, the Distinguished Scholar of Asian and Pacific Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, recently made an official visit to the Abu Dhabi Men’s College. ADMC is a key part of the UAE’s sprawling Higher Colleges of Technology.
Mr. Plate is also the award-winning author of the bestselling Giants of Asia series, which includes books on Lee Kuan Yew, Mahathir Mohamad and Thaksin Shinawatra. This fall the fourth volume, “Conversations with Ban Ki Moon” will be released.
Mr. Plate, who has been an internationally syndicated Asia columnist since 1996, was warmly received by ADMC Director Dr. Simon Jones and other ADMC staff and students.
He was given an extensive tour of the ADMC campus and facilities by a group of ADMC students, who showed the visiting delegation what the College provides them, including the technologically advanced learning environment, classrooms, laboratories and the modern and sophisticated ways of learning.
Mr. Plate was briefed during his visit about ADMC in general, the library, Interactive learning zone, different labs, and 3D learning zone. He visited various engineering departments, lecture halls and the newly created communication lab. Mr. Plate said he was very impressed with what he saw during his visit to the College.
Dr. Simon Jones gave a briefing about the Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT), particularly relating to health science, technology and education-based institutions and corporations based in the CERT Technology Park, Abu Dhabi.
