Cecil Chao, Hong Kong’s notoriously homophobic billionaire playboy, has recently become the inspiration for the outrageous Sacha Baron Cohen’s next movie.
Famous for being absurdly offensive yet comical, Cohen’s last mockumentary, “The Dictator”, parodied the late Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi. Similarly, Cohen and his production company has made plans with Paramount Pictures to base his new movie, “The Lesbian”, on Cecil Chao’s public offer of $65 million to any man that can seduce and marry his 33 year-old lesbian daughter.
The 76 year-old shipping mogul has made headlines before, bragging of his flamboyant lifestyle, 10,000 girlfriends, and his marriage to a significantly younger model. After releasing his pitch, Chao’s daughter, Gigi, received thousands of responses from eager suitors, hoping to take him up on his offer.
Although homosexuality was decriminalized in Hong Kong in 1991, same sex marriages and civil unions are still prohibited and considered taboo. Gigi told the Associated Press that she has received blessings from a church in Paris with her long time girlfriend.
Despite all the attention, Gigi admits to the New York Daily News, “He (Chao) just has a very interesting way of expressing his fatherly love”.
