Marshall Cavendish, one of Asia’s preeminent English-language book publishers, has announced contract agreement to bring out a major new nonfiction book by American journalist Tom Plate this Fall. The book – which is tentatively titled TOM PLATE ON ASIA: Tracing Asia’s Phenomenal Rise Through an American Journalist’s Eyes – will be published to coincide with the annual Southeast Asia Writer’s festival in Singapore in November. This new book will offer a selection of newspaper columns between 1996 and the present that help chart the evolution of Asia out of the regional financial crisis of 1997-1998 up until the present prominence.
Journalist Plate is the author of the controversial quartet of intimate political profiles in the ‘GIANTS OF ASIA’ series, also published by Marshall Cavendish. The most recent book in that best-selling series is ‘Conversations with Ban Ki-Moon: A View from the Top’.
Plate is also the Distinguished Scholar of Asian and Pacific Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and the author of 10 books overall. He is also the founder and editor in chief of ASIA MEDIA (asiamedia.lmu.edu), this online publication at LMU driven by student writers and editors.
